bpo-37330: open() no longer accept 'U' in file mode (GH-28118) 
open(), io.open(), codecs.open() and fileinput.FileInput no longer
accept "U" ("universal newline") in the file mode. This flag was
deprecated since Python 3.3.

bpo-9372: Deprecate several __getitem__ methods (GH-8609) 
The __getitem__ methods of DOMEventStream, FileInput,
and FileWrapper classes ignore their 'index' parameters
and return the next item instead.

830207e8f3 #22709: Use stdin as-is if it does not have a buffer attribute. 
This restores backward compatibility lost in the fix for #21075, and
is better duck typing.

34d1928766 SF patch# 1770008 by Christian Heimes (plus some extras). 
Completely get rid of StringIO.py and cStringIO.c.

I had to fix a few tests and modules beyond what Christian did, and
invent a few conventions.  E.g. in elementtree, I chose to
write/return Unicode strings whe no encoding is given, but bytes when
an explicit encoding is given.  Also mimetools was made to always
assume binary files.
